Eligibility for Regional or State Tournaments
Purpose
The following criteria have been used as a guide to the Executive Board for creating listings of eligible officials. To ensure the widest possible geographic representation of our membership, two (2) officials from the membership at-large will be invited to participate in the Eligibility for Regional or State Tournaments Committee.
Regional and State Tournaments
UIL requires the Chapter to provide a ranked list of eligible Playoff Officials for Regional and State Tournament selection. These assignments are made by UIL from our list and lists provided from all other state chapters. When an official is invited and participates in the Regional or State Tournament for three (3) consecutive years the official will not be considered for the Regional or State Tournament for a period of two (2) years. To ensure fairness and opportunity we do not intend to place an official on the recommended list for Regional or State Tournament consideration. Eligibility for local/invited playoffs is not affected.
Eligibility Criteria for Regional and State Tournaments
- Completed all Chapter registration requirements and in good-standing through Tarrant Chapter TASO-Soccer
- Attend a minimum of two (2) scheduled Tarrant Chapter training sessions, and successfully pass the NFHS Soccer Rules Test
- Officiate in a minimum of 15 – Tarrant Chapter assigned UIL High School soccer games (total centers and lines)
- Successfully pass the USSF Physical Fitness Test or NISOA fitness test. (Testing after June 30th of the preceding year will count as completion for the current UIL Soccer season.)
- Participation in the scrimmages will also be considered for selection for Regional and State playoff Tournaments.
- The Committee may consider additional criteria such as game performance (as identified by assessment and/or coach evaluation), attitude and professional demeanor, as well as experience.
Procedures
- The Post Season Playoff Committee shall rank in numerical order officials that have met all the above criteria with the top official as number 1 and continue ranking through number 25. The Chapter Secretary will then submit the list to the UIL by the date established in the letter of request. Only the committee members and Chapter Assignor may have access to the list.
- Assignor will select from the list of officials that have met all the playoff criteria giving priority according to the rankings to ensure the best qualified officials for requested game assignments
- Additional rankings of officials who have not met all the listed criteria for Regional/State Tournament consideration may be conducted as needed to ensure coverage of local and invited playoff games. The Committee may consider additional criteria such as game performance (as identified by assessment and/or coach evaluation), attitude and professional demeanor, as well as experience.
- If an official is specifically requested by a participating coach or athletic director, said official may be assigned, if available, without regard to the ranked order, but must be on the Chapter listing of eligible officials.
